Who Is Liya?

Liya Grey

Aspiring Author & Podcast Host

First and foremost, I am a 2015 Penn State graduate with two Bachelor of Arts degrees. The first is in Telecommunications, and the second is in Integrative Arts, which combines two or more art majors. I chose to merge Photography and Creative Writing. I also hold a Copywriting certificate from the Blackford Centre.

While I have wanted to be a novelist my whole life, I wear many hats. Since 2013, I have been a wedding and portrait photographer at TM Grey Photo. I love capturing the stories and smiles of my clients. A picture is worth 1,000 words.

I spent seven years as a Video Producer in the corporate world at AccuWeather and Weight Watchers. I went from telling news stories to success stories and couldn't have been happier. I interviewed real WW members and helped put their stories out.

I was unfortunately let go, but when one door closed, a window of opportunity that I left cracked for many years finally opened up. There was time to work on the novel I've been writing since 2014—no more excuses. So, I took my photography business full-time and went on to refine my craft.

I've been working on refining my novel writing skills for many years. I've bought books and learned much more than I was taught in school. But there was still something missing. After I binged most of Savannah Gilbos' Fiction Writing Made Easy Podcast, I knew I was finally headed in the right direction.

While enrolled in her Notes to Novel course and working on my draft, I missed the thrill of production life. I already had the equipment, tools, and production knowledge and felt I could contribute to other writers' journies. I wanted to start my podcast to help myself and others get into the daily habit of writing and having a creative mindset.

I have ADHD, anxiety, and depression. Writing is fun and a way to express myself and deal with my neurodiversity. I often write when I am extremely emotional to help center myself and work through everything.

All my creative writing courses started with a few minutes of writing, so I want to share writing prompts with fellow writers. I will also share my thoughts on creative writing and where I am on my writing journey. I hope to inspire a positive atmosphere while sharing my successes and struggles.
